Area lawmakers named to legislative committees; Hall compactor site reminder

*Georgia House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) has named members of the newly created House Study Committee on Safety and Consumer Protection in the Tree Care Industry. They include Rep. Victor Anderson (R-Cornelia) who will serve at the committee’s chairman. The committee is charged with examining the safety risks and consumer protection issues including licensing, registration, and insurance requirements that impact Georgia’s tree care industry.

*Another area legislator, Senate Majority Leader Steve Gooch (R-Dahlonega), has been appointed to the Senate Advancing Forest Innovation in Georgia Study Committee and the Senate Supporting Safety and Welfare of All Individuals in Department of Corrections Study Committee. The Senate Advancing Forest Innovation in Georgia Study Committee will focus on exploring new technologies and practices in forestry to promote sustainable development and economic growth within the state. The Senate Supporting Safety and Welfare of All Individuals in Department of Corrections Study Committee will review and evaluate current policies to improve the safety and well-being of individuals within the correctional system. This committee aims to ensure that “the practices in place are humane and effective,” according to Lt. Gov. Burt Jones, who made the appointments.
