UPDATED: 13 charges against man jailed early Sunday

A Gainesville man was arrested over the weekend on a DUI charge, and a long list of traffic offenses related to an incident on Shope Road in the northeastern part of the county – thirteen charges in all.

HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NARRATIVE:

“HCSO deputies were dispatched around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18, to investigate an overturned recreational vehicle on Shope Road at James Ed Road.

The preliminary investigation indicated the driver of the 2000 Polaris General flipped the vehicle in a turn, striking a telecommunications box on the side of the road. The driver managed to right the vehicle with the help of another person who had come to the scene, but as deputies approached with flashing lights, both men jump into the vehicle. The driver traveled down James Ed Road, made a U-turn, and then turned right on to Shope Road in an attempt to avoid deputies. The driver flipped the vehicle a second time n in a curve on Shope Road in the area of Mark Trail.

At that point, deputies made contact with the driver, identified as Hayden Kenneth Jackson, 29, of Gainesville. Mr. Jackson was charged separately for each accident.

For the initial collision, Jackson was charged with:

·         Duty to stop upon striking a fixture

·         Driving on the wrong side of the roadway

·         Driving too fast for conditions

·         Failure to stop at a stop sign

·         No proof of insurance

For the second collision, Jackson was charged with:

·         DUI/alcohol-less safe

·         Reckless driving

·         Driving too fast for conditions

·         Failure to maintain lane

·         Operating an unregistered vehicle

·         Driving with off road tires on a roadway

·         Fleeing or attempting to elude (two counts)

The passenger in the vehicle, a 29-year-old Lula man, sustained non-life threatening injuries in the second crash and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Jackson was released from the Hall County Jail on a bond of $16,860.”
