The Habersham County Senior Center needs the public’s help if it is to fulfill its mission of feeding the
community’s elderly population through Meals on Wheels for the next six weeks.
HABERSHAM CO. GOVERNMENT NEWS RELEASE:
State and federal funding for the Meals on Wheels program has run out,
leaving Senior Center Director Kathy Holcomb hoping local residents,
organizations, churches, and even city governments will chip in a combined
$10,000 to keep the program solvent until the new fiscal year begins on July
1…
Meals on Wheels support through the gift certificate program is open to
anyone who would like to help.
A student can donate $6 to purchase one meal for a senior citizen in need.
A couple can donate $42 to cover a senior’s meals for a week, or a family
can donate $186 to feed a senior for a month.
A local church or civic club might choose to pay for three months of meals at
a cost of $558.
Those who are able to do more might donate $1,116 to purchase meals for
six months, or $2,232 to pay for meals for a year.
The above are only suggestions based on actual costs of feeding the
community’s senior citizens. Other amounts also are accepted.
