A 54-year-old Oakwood man facing nearly three dozen counts of sexual exploitation of children remained in the Hall County Jail without bond as late as mid-afternoon Wednesday.
The case began unfolding on April 5, according to Detective Sgt. Stewart Webb, with a call from Emory Johns Creek Hospital in Johns Creek about what was described as a “delirious patient” mumbling about child molestation and insurance fraud. That same day a search warrant was executed at a suspect’s home in Oakwood and several “media devices” were seized.
A few days later, a GBI analyst came to the Oakwood Police Department and reviewed the devices and identified a number of child exploitation pictures, leading to the arrest of Todd Shurilla on 35 counts of Child Exploitation.
Sgt. Webb added at the present time investigators do not have any current evidence that Shurilla has molested any children.
This investigation remains active while additional evidence is being processed by the GBI Crime Lab.
