*Three top officials from a town in southern Georgia are facing charges after allegedly putting a tracking device on the police chief’s cruiser. Police Chief Tony Perkins of the town Enigma says Acting Mayor Doug Webb, Councilman Ronald Harbin and City Clerk Latasha Luke are being accused of manipulating another person to implement the tracking device. The three officials are facing stalking, eavesdropping and other related charges after Perkins found the tracking device a few weeks ago while washing his car. All three suspects are being held without bond.
*The Trump administration is reinstating hundreds of expert workers at the Atlanta-based CDC fired in error. Team Trump trying Saturday to reverse a rash of layoffs Friday that appears to be a huge procedural error. Those layoffs included the CDC’s top 2 leaders on the measles response team.
*More home sales are being canceled in Atlanta than anywhere else in the country. A report from Redfin shows the cancellation rate rose to 21 percent in August, which is six points above the national average and higher than in any other region. A chief economist for the real estate company says many deals are falling through during inspections.
*Binge drinking isn’t as much of a problem in Georgia as it might be in other states. A report compiled with CDC data by Wellbrook Recovery shows that the rate in the Peach State is just under 16-percent of adults. That’s ninth-lowest in the country. Binge drinking is generally considered to be consuming at least four-to-five-drinks in one sitting over the last month.
