*A Cordele man is guilty of scamming the government out of COVID relief funds. Investigators say Malcolm Jeffrey filed unemployment claims for his defunct business by using stolen personally identifiable information. There were around seven-thousand co-conspirators in the case that ended up pocketing 16 million dollars. A jury convicted Jeffrey of conspiracy to commit mail fraud last week.
*A new study finds that Georgia is the country’s 9th most religious state. The most religious? Virginia. The least religious? New Hampshire. SmileHub says it compared each of the 50 states based on 13 key metrics. The data set ranges from the number of faith & religious support charities per capita to the share of people who pray at least daily to the number of religion-related careers per capita.
*Atlanta has been ranked as the third best city for tree huggers in the United States, according to a recent list published by Lawn Love. The rankings considered tree canopy, urban tree infrastructure, and climate, with Atlanta scoring well in all three categories, according to 11Alive. The site listed other Georgia cities like Athens, South Fulton, Roswell, and Sandy Springs as making the list of top tree-hugger cities. Atlanta was praised for its nonprofit groups like Trees Atlanta and conservation efforts such as the One Million Trees Initiative.
