Construction has begun on a new interchange onI-85 in Suwanee.
SUWANEE NEWS RELEASE:
“Suwanee residents will have another way to navigate their daily commutes into Atlanta via I-85. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announced that construction has begun for the new interchange at I-85 at McGinnis Ferry Road.
The interchange project encompasses the development of a new bridge and approaches over I-85. The project is a half-diamond interchange format, meaning ramps will only be installed facing one direction, not both directions, and in this case south-facing. The interchange will help alleviate the Lawrenceville-Suwanee exit for drivers commuting back and forth from Atlanta on I-85. Suwanee drivers wanting to travel north to Buford or beyond would still need to use the Lawrenceville-Suwanee exit.
GDOT revealed that Norcross-based CMES, Inc. has been awarded a $24.8 million contract to lead the construction of this pivotal interchange. The completion of the interchange is anticipated to be in early 2026.”
