Woman jailed on animal cruelty, other charges following weekend incidents

A 74-year-old woman faces animal cruelty and other charges following her arrest Saturday after two incidents in Gainesville just minutes apart.

“Police were called to PetSmart (on Dawsonville Highway) in regards to the listed subject actively beating a large dog,” Gainesville Police spokesman Kevin Holbrook wrote in an email Monday. “Shortly after, officers were called to Wilshire Trails park for a female with a large dog (who was) acting aggressively towards (the dog and other people). The call turned out to be the same subject.”

Dixie Lemoon Farrell is charged with animal cruelty (two counts), disorderly conduct (two counts), and operating a vehicle with an expired tag.
