Now that the snow has moved on (at least the falling kind), you may have noticed that bone-chilling cold has taken over. And this is nothing to joke about, according to the weather service.
“Dangerous wind chills are expected through Sunday afternoon across all of North and Central Georgia,” the agency said in an early morning advisory. “(Be sure) to dress appropriately if going outdoors and avoid being outdoors for extended periods of time.
“Avoid prolonged exposure outdoors and have a safe heating source.
Feels-like temperatures of -5 to +5 are likely all day with -15s possible in the mountains. As of 6:00 this morning they had been in the single digits since 11:00 a.m. Saturday in Gainesville, the lowest being a -10 that was recorded at 6:45. At 6:00 the temperature at the airport was 14 and the wind chill +1 with 22mph winds. The top wind gust the past 24 hours was 33 mph.
