Comprehensive plans must be updated with the state every eight years which, a spokeswoman for the city said, gave Winder the opportunity to form its own independent plan along with adding regular updates.
The process began in the fall of 2022 when city leaders and elected officials hosted professionals from Pond & Company to discuss the city’s future.
Council members were able to participate in a full day of strategy, answering these questions: What does the Winder look like in 20 years? What does Winder mean to you? How do we develop a plan that meets form, function, and supports regulations?
The resulting document will give the council legal support when addressing new land use applications: graduated density, minimum expectations for new developments, and tools for developing quality developments.
