The wife of the North Hall High School teacher who lost his life over the weekend is asking for mercy for the five teenagers charged in connection with his death during a high school prank.
Jason Hughes, 40, was struck and killed outside his Gainesville home Friday night after a group of teens were leaving after “rolling” the trees in his yard with toilet paper.
Laura Hughes says her husband knew that what was happening was planned and was a prank and decided to confront the teens “playfully.”
Hughes died when he tripped and was run over by a pickup driven by Jayden Ryan Wallace, 18, as it was leaving. All five of the those arrested face charges with Wallace facing the most serious – vehicular homicide in the first-degree. He has been freed from the Hall County Jail on bonds totaling $11,050.
Jason Hughes was also a golf coach at North Hall.
By mid-afternoon Monday, a GoFundMe account set up for his wife and two children had raised $$288,332. The goal was $75,000. At last check, donations were still being accepted at Fundraiser by Krista May : In Memory of Jason Hughes: Support His Family
