Holly Witcher, a special education teacher at Tesnatee Gap Elementary School in White County, was named Georgia Teacher of the Year Friday night.
State School Supt. Richard Woods announced the selection at a banquet held in LaGrange to celebrate all district teachers of the year.
“Holly Witcher is a shining example of our mission of preparing all students for life,” Woods said in making the presentation. “I am inspired by the way she equips her students to live positive, productive lives and helps them connect to their community.”
He went on to say “I know she will be a phenomenal advocate for public education over the next year, just as she has been for her students in White County.”
Steven McIntyre, who teaches CTAE: Audio and Film Tech at Hall County’s Chestatee High School, was among the semi-finalists for the award.
