White Co.: Hiker rescued after Mt. Yonah fall

Rescue personnel from White County spent about two hours on Mt. Yonah Monday afternoon rescuing a hiker who had fallen and was unable to move.

Shortly before 2:30…White County E-911 Communications dispatched White County Fire Services, White County EMS, and the White County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) to the Mount Yonah Trailhead off Chambers Road…

White County Fire personnel responded with wildland rescue apparatus and equipment designed for trail extrication operations. Fire and EMS crews entered the trail from the main trailhead and located the individual approximately one mile up the trail. White County EMA’s UAS1 (Drone) was deployed to provide overwatch and confirm the location of the individual.

Using a stokes basket, crews worked together to safely extricate the individual from the mountain.

Personnel from the LACI (Lee Arrendale Correctional Institute) Fire Department also responded, providing additional manpower to assist county crews. The patient was successfully carried off the trail and transported by White County EMS to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for further treatment.
