JACKSON EMC NEWS RELEASE:
“Jackson EMC is closely monitoring the forecast for January 23–26, which could bring freezing temperatures, damaging ice, and/or snowfall to parts of our service area. In anticipation of potential impacts, Jackson EMC has prepared equipment, fleet vehicles, and is pre-positioning crews and resources across the service area.
Winter weather can cause power outages by weighing down trees and power lines, and making travel and restoration work more difficult.
As always, Jackson EMC linemen and member service team members stand ready to respond to our members when needed. We will mobilize restoration crews prepared to respond to any outages as quickly as conditions and safety procedures allow. In addition to our 450 employees, Jackson EMC has 150 additional contract crew members scheduled to assist if needed.
While crews are preparing, members are encouraged to prepare now by charging electronic devices, gathering flashlights and blankets, and making sure they know how to report an outage. Members who plan to use generators during power interruptions should follow manufacturer instructions and never backfeed power into their home, which can pose serious safety risks to utility crews and the public.
If you come upon a fallen power line, assume it is electrically charged. This includes cable TV feeds and telephone lines. Call 911 and report any downed line to your power company.
