A well-known north Georgia Methodist minister, Rev. Dr. Steve Winter III, who was 75, has died.
Dr. Winter began his long career of ministry to the people of north Georgia through the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church serving first as Youth Minister at Columbia Drive Methodist Church, then Associate Pastor at Griffin First United Methodist Church. He was later appointed to the Menlo-Bethel Charge, then served the Cave Spring-Vann’s Valley Charge, Hollydale United Methodist Church, Cleveland First United Methodist Church and Eatonton First United Methodist Church. He finished his career as Executive Pastor to Gainesville First United Methodist Church.
He was also a member of a number of civic organizations in the various communities he served including the Menlo Lions Club, the Cleveland Kiwanis Club, the White Co. Sports Booster Club, and the Gainesville Kiwanis Club. He also served on the boards for FARE International, an organization devoted to serving and helping people in the world’s poorest nations, and the Folk Pottery Museum of Northeast Georgia.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Mossy Creek United Methodist Church in Cleveland Monday at 2:00.
