Week’s worth of triple-digit heat indexes returning

Hot and humid conditions are expected to continue through late next week with a return of triple-digit heat indexes such as what we experienced during the July heat wave. The National Weather Service (NWS) says today will be the hottest when heat index values rise to between 95-105.

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected each afternoon, though chances for organized severe weather will be low. A sudden storm Friday afternoon produced some flooding in low-lying areas around Gainesville, while dumping about two inches of rain in some places, though much less than that was recorded at the NWS station at the airport.
