A road project on the westside of Gainesville aimed at making a stretch of busy Jesse Jewell Parkway more pedestrian friendly is finally underway.
The installation of what are called “medianettes” is taking place overnights between Skelton Road and John Morrow Parkway and means occasional lane closures. The work was to have begun last month but was postponed until this past Monday, Dec. 2.

EARLIER STORY. PUBLISHED NOV. 22: A spokesman for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) said Thursday the contractor requested that the start date be pushed back. to Dec. 2. The original start date was this past Monday. The work will involve reason the work on installing pedestrian-friendly “islands” on Jesse Jewell Parkway between Skelton Road and John Morrow Parkway.
