Politics aside, the 9th District Republican Party Sunday within hours of his death reacted to the passing of former President Jimmy Carter, calling him “a family man, a good Christian, and proud Georgian.”
Carter, a Democrat, died at his home in Plains, where he had been in hospice care for almost two years, Sunday afternoon at the age of 100. He had turned 100 in October.
The 9th District tribute continued “President Carter maintained a part-time residence in Ellijay, GA where he often spent time with residents of the 9th District away from his home in Plains, GA. Outside of his presidency, his contributions to humanitarian efforts and youth organizations like the National FFA Organization.”
“Rest in peace President Carter. Prayers for his friends and family,” wrote the Hall County Republican Party on its Facebook page.
Congressman Andrew Clyde, one of two Republicans in Congress who represent parts of Hall County, said on X, formerly Twitter, “Please join me in prayer for the family and friends of President Jimmy Carter, a man of faith with a servant’s heart who dedicated decades of his life to our great country.
“May he Rest in Peace.”
Rep. Rich McCormick, who also represents a part of Hall County in Congress, posted on X: “If we all strived to live half of the life of service to the Lord and our fellow man as Jimmy Carter did, the world would be a much better place.”
State Rep. Lee Hawkins (R-Gainesville): “Paying tribute to a pioneer of his era, President Jimmy Carter. His contributions to our state, nation and the world enhanced lives and will continue to do so for generations to come.”
State Sen. Steve Gooch (R-Lumpkin Co.), Senate Majority Leader: “My Senate colleagues and I join in mourning the passing of a great Georgian, former President Jimmy Carter. Presudent Carter was a steadfast role model and leader in Georgia and across the country. His dedicated commitment to community and continued commitment to serve has impacted millions throughout his lifetime.”
