HABERSHAM CO. SERHIFFS OFFICE (HABCOSO) NEWS RELEASE:
A tip from a local business Thursday night led to the arrest of a man wanted in
connection with an officer-involved shooting early Wednesday in Habersham County.
Jonathan William Harris, 34, of Sautee, was arrested just before 9 p.m. at a home on
Rosewood Drive off Toccoa Highway outside Clarkesville…
The employee advised deputies the man entered the store wearing a yellow traffic vest,
a helmet, gloves, and a mask and when he pulled the mask down, he was recognized as
Harris…
Upon reviewing video footage at the business, deputies confirmed it was Harris and
other units responded to the area to establish a perimeter. The individual had left in a Kubota side-by-side with pine straw in the bed. Deputies located the (vehicle) a short distance away on Rosewood Drive just off Ga. 15…
K-9 teams from Habersham County Sheriff’s Office and Banks County Sheriff’s Office
tracked to a camper parked in the yard of a home on Rosewood Drive and noticed that a
window had been forced open.
After failed attempts to communicate with Harris and visual movement within the
camper was observed, deputies obtained a key from the owner and confirmed that the
camper was supposed to be unoccupied. A K-9 team and several law enforcement
personnel entered the camper.
Harris was located under the camper bed and refused to comply with numerous
commands from deputies, so he was taken into custody by a K-9 apprehension.
Harris had in his immediate possession two handguns and also two other firearms
located in a bag belonging to him.
Harris was assessed by Habersham County Emergency Services personnel on scene and
taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Habersham for medical clearance from the K-
9 apprehension and will be booked into the Habersham County Detention Center.
He now faces additional charges.
Anyone who believes they are a victim of theft or burglary since early Wednesday, June
11, should contact the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office.
