UPDATE: Three injured in weekend head-on crash in N. Hall

Three people escaped serious injury in a head-on accident on Old Cornelia Highway Friday night, the state patrol said Monday. One of them was trapped in the wreckage for a time.

STATE PATROL NARRATIVE:

“(The investigating trooper) determined a 2007 Chevy Avalanche was traveling north on Old Cornelia Hwy. The driver, Marissa Broome, 63, of Gainesville, was attempting to make a left turn onto a private driveway.  Ms. Broome failed to yield to a 2020 Chevy Silverado, driven by Jorge Romero-Burciaga, 52 of Gainesville, which was traveling south on Old Cornelia Hwy. The Avalanche struck the Silverado in a head- on manner.

After impact, the Chevy Avalanche rotated in a counterclockwise motion, coming to an uncontrolled rest facing south on Old Cornelia Hwy. Ms. Broome was entrapped and was extricated by Hall County Fire Services.

Both drivers, as well a passenger from the Avalanche, Kathy Hulsey, 64 of Cornelia, were transported to a (hospital) with minor injuries.

. Broome was cited for failure to yield while turning left.

Old Cornelia Hwy was shut down for approximately 45 minutes for the investigation and clean-up.”
