UPDATE: Suspect in Rockdale Co. murder arrested in NE Ga.

The suspect in a Rockdale County murder has been arrested in Stephens County. The alleged victim was found in Habersham County. (See earlier story posted below.)

ROCKDALE CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE:

On (Tuesday), at approximately 5:20 PM, the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) responded to a welfare check in the 1100 block of Bethel Road, Conyers, GA. The responding unit attempted to make contact with the possible missing person, however, to no avail.

On (Wednesday), RCSO received additional information which led investigators to believe that there was potential foul play associated with the reported missing person case. RCSO personnel began investigating the case and secured enough evidence to label Lee Daffin as a person of interest. With the help of local agencies, Daffin was apprehended in Stephens County after a brief vehicle pursuit.

Further investigation has led RCSO to the discovery of a body (in Habersham County early Thursday morning). The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office is still in the process of obtaining confirmation as to the identity of the body. This is an active and ongoing investigation. As information becomes available, updates will be provided.

Lee Daffin is facing the following charges:

·Aggravated Assault (F)

·Terroristic Threats and Acts (F)

Additional charges may be added based on the results of the investigation.

EARLIER STORY. POSTED 1:30 P.M. THURSDAY: The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office has one person in custody after a body was found in Habersham County early Thursday. The discovery was made after Rockdale authorities notified the Habersham sheriff’s office that it had information that a body of the victim of a murder they were investigating might be located in the Carpenter’s Cove Lane area in Cornelia. No other information was immediately available pending an update from Rockdale County.
