Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) investigators have charged a Gainesville man with malice murder and other offenses in the fatal Sunday afternoon shooting of another Gainesville man at a county park west of Gainesville.
Sheriff’s office spokesman Derreck Booth said Monday morning that Todd Alexander Stalcup, 52, is being
held without bond in the Hall County Jail, charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
The victim, Terry Wayne Loden, 70, of Gainesville, died at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following the approximately 3:30 p.m. incident. His dog also died.
According to initial details, Booth said, the two men, who did not know one another, were walking their dogs in the park when the dogs began fighting. Stalcup shot the Loden’s dog with a handgun and then shot Loden.
Stalcup initially remained at the scene but left in his SUV. Deputies took him into custody roughly 15 minutes after the shooting as he was leaving the park.
