UPDATE: Shotgun fire erupts as deputies answer call on Keith Circle

11:00 P.M. MONDAY UPDATE:

A Gainesville man arrested Friday by Hall County sheriff’s deputies on several charges for firing a shotgun while under the influence of alcohol and cocaine remained in jail Monday afternoon, the sheriff’s office said. The sheriff’s office also said he was in possession of an illegal rifle.

HALL CO. SEHRIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NARRATIVE:

“At approximately 2:30 p.m., deputies responded to a request for a welfare check at a residence in the 100 block of Keith Circle. While attempting to get someone to answer the door, deputies heard a loud “pop” noise from behind the home. The homeowner came to the door and confirmed that a man, Angel Hernandez, 46, of Gainesville, lived in an RV and shed behind the house. Deputies heard another “pop” as the owner took them around back.

Hernandez came out of the RV and spoke with deputies. During the initial investigation, they determined the “pop” noises were Hernandez firing a shotgun at the shed from the RV. He was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine at the time. Deputies confiscated the shotgun and a rifle. The rifle’s serial number had been removed, and its barrel had been sawed down to approximately 12 inches. Both firearms were loaded.

Deputies arrested Hernandez, who was cooperative during the investigation. They charged him with the following crimes:

  • Criminal use of an article with an altered identification mark (felony)
  • Possession of a sawed-off rifle (felony)
  • Discharge of firearm while under the influence (misdemeanor)
  • Discharge of firearm on property of another (misdemeanor)
  • Criminal trespass (misdemeanor)

Hernandez was booked into the Hall County Jail, where he remained held on $14,400 bond on Monday afternoon…”

EARLIER STORY. POSTED SUNDAY: A 46-year-old man is in custody in Gainesville after being arrested Friday afternoon on a number of charges including firing a gun while under the influence of drugs or alcohol and possession of a shotgun/machine gun/silencer/dangerous weapon. Other charges include criminal use of an article with an altered ID mark, discharging a firearm on the property of another, and criminal trespass. The arrest occurred on Keith Circle about 3:00. The suspect is being held in the Hall County Jail on bonds totaling $14,400.
