UPDATE: No arrests following Friday courtroom outburst

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) says no one was arrested in connection with the outburst that occurred Friday night as a Gainesville murder trial was concluding.

HCSO NARRATIVE:

“…Several verbal outbursts that occurred in a courtroom during a criminal trial prompted action by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO). HCSO courthouse personnel called for back-up law enforcement support just before 9 p.m. as deputies cleared the courtroom.

The incident started during the victim impact portion of the trial of Deon Altron Ellison, who had been convicted earlier in the evening in the murder of his cousin Jeremiah James Bonds. Ellison began to shout during the reading of statements, which in turn, led to additional verbal disputes from the gallery.

As tensions escalated, HCSO courthouse deputies called for HCSO patrol deputies and Gainesville Police Department officers to come to the courthouse to assist with the clearing of spectators from the building. Spectators were asked to leave the premises and deputies monitored their departure to ensure the arguments did not turn physical.

One woman in the gallery suffered a panic attack, so a med unit was called to the scene. The woman refused transport.

No one was arrested.”
