Brenda Hankinson is now the Democratic nominee for Georgia’s State Senate District 47 which includes Madison County and parts of Jackson, Barrow and Clarke counties.
This development follows the removal of former candidate Justin Gillespie from the race after his recent conviction of first-degree cruelty to children which made him legally ineligible to continue as the candidate. Hankinson will face Republican Sen. Frank Ginn in next month’s General Election.
A University of Georgia graduate, Hankinson has worked in academia, agricultural extension services, and the pharmaceutical industry currently working as a food‑nutrition specialist.
She was chosen to replace Gillespie, who was sentenced to two years in prison and five years’ probation by the Democratic Party’s executive committee.
