A man who was struck by a train on Saturday morning in Gainesville died
at the scene, according to investigators with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).
The victim, an adult male, was walking on the tracks in the area of Dorsey Street and
Industrial Boulevard just before 1:30 when he was struck.
The preliminary investigation determined the victim was walking southbound on the tracks while the train
was traveling northbound. The train operator sounded warning equipment, but could not
stop in time to avoid a collision. Investigators said it appeared the victim walked
deliberately into the path of the train.
The victim was a known member of the Gainesville homeless community.
Investigators are attempting to contact the victim’s next of kin, so his name will not be made public at this
time.
