UPDATE: Gville woman arrested in fatal hit-and-run

One of two people injured Monday morning in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident in Gainesville has died and a Gainesville woman faces several charges as a result, including vehicular homicide.

GAINESVILLE POLICE NEWS RELEASE:

61-year-old, Phillip Adams was…killed around 11:00…while crossing Academy Street. A second victim, 77-year-old, Linda Tench, remains hospitalized.

Tench was pushing Adams across the roadway in a wheelchair, in a designated crosswalk, when a vehicle failed to yield right of way, striking both victims. The vehicle then fled the scene without stopping. Both victims were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in critical condition. Adams died at the hospital. Tench remains in stable condition.

Through the course of the investigation, police identified the driver of the hit-and-run vehicle as 29-year-old, Janet Villanueva, of Gainesville. Villanueva is being held in the Hall County Jail, charged with homicide by vehicle 1st degree, serious injury by motor vehicle, felony hit and run, failure to yield right of way to pedestrian in a crosswalk, (and) driver to exercise due regard.”
