UPDATE: Exploding 18-wheeler snarls 985 traffic; no injuries

UPDATE POSTED 10:30 A.M. TUESDAY:

The incident that brought southbound traffic on I-985 in South Hall to a standstill for several hours Monday was caused by an explosion onboard a tractor-trailer, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

GSP REPORT:

“…at approximately 5:15 PM, Troopers were dispatched to a vehicle fire on I-985 south about a half mile north of GA 20. 

A tractor trailer was traveling south on I-985 when the trailer exploded for an unknown reason.  Gwinnett Fire responded to extinguish the truck fire.  It was determined that the truck was not hauling any (hazardous materials) at the time of the explosion and there were no injuries reported. 

(Southbound traffic was routed off the interstate) onto GA 347 (Friendship Road)… 

The cause of the explosion has not yet been determined.”
