UPDATE: 11:00 A.M. SUNDAY

An 18-year-old was killed in a high-speed crash on McEver Road that took out a utility pole, knocking power out in the area for several hours, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).

GSP NARRATIVE:

“On October 21st, 2023, at 7:38 PM, Troopers from Post 06 in Gainesville responded to the area of McEver Road and Vineyard Way to investigate a traffic crash.

Upon arrival, Troopers determined a 2008 Toyota Scion was traveling south on McEver Road. The driver, Daniel Reyes, 18, of Oakwood, was attempting to negotiate a right-hand curve. While traveling too fast for the roadway conditions, the Scion struck the concrete median and began traveling across the northbound lanes of McEver Road.

The Scion then traveled off the west shoulder of the roadway where it struck a DOT road sign and utility/power pole. The Scion came to an uncontrolled final rest on an access road where Reyes sustained fatal injuries. Reyes was extricated by Hall County Fire Rescue and released to the Hall County Coroner’s Office. Both Georgia Power and Jackson EMC were notified of the power lines and pole.”
