The eight people killed in the chain-reaction crash on I-85 in Jackson County Monday were all members of the same Gwinnett County family.
The three adults, one of them pregnant, and five children, ages 2 to 16, were in a van that was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer driven by a Gainesville man, Kane Aaron Hammock, 33. The van burst into flames upon impact.
Several other vehicles were involved in the crash as well, including a van from a Cumming no-kill shelter that was on its way to Vermont to deliver 37 cats to a no-kill facility there.
