United Community Bank is taking a record-breaking step to earmark its tax dollars to benefit the health of the people it serves. The bank’s deferment of $500,000 – which will directly benefit Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Lumpkin and NGMC Habersham – is the largest contribution Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) has ever received through the state’s Rural Hospital Tax Credit program.
“We’re deeply committed to supporting the communities we serve, and access to quality health care is vital for rural areas,” said Jack Keener, North Georgia state president at United Community. “We’re proud to utilize the Rural Hospital Tax Credit program to make this impactful contribution to NGMC Lumpkin and NGMC Habersham.”
The Rural Hospital Tax Credit program allows eligible Georgia businesses and taxpayers to receive a state income tax credit for contributing to qualified rural hospitals. This program has become an essential lifeline for many rural healthcare facilities facing financial challenges.
“United Community’s generous contribution will have a profound impact on our ability to provide high-quality care to people who rely on our hospitals in Lumpkin and Habersham counties,” said Kevin Matson, NGHS’ vice president of Regional Hospitals. “We’re grateful for their support and for the Rural Hospital Tax Credit program, which continues to be a crucial resource for rural healthcare in Georgia.”
