Separate investigations lead to two arrests, confiscation of $12k+ in illegal drugs

Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Special Investigations Unit (SIU) officers arrested a Gainesville man and one from Gainesville Thursday afternoon during separate investigations.

HCSO NARRATIVE:

“Investigators took custody of Rashaum Jerome Miller, 42, at a location in the 1700 block of Browns Bridge Road. They charged him with criminal attempt to commit distribution of cocaine and use of a communication facility in committing or facilitating a drug transaction, both felonies.

According to the initial investigation, Miller used his phone to set up a deal to drive 50 miles to deliver cocaine to the Browns Bridge Road location where he was arrested. No drugs were recovered at the time of his arrest.

Investigators transported Miller to the Hall County Jail where he remained held without bond on Friday afternoon, March 28. The case remains under investigation.”

HCSO NEWS RELEASE #2:

“Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Special Investigations Unit (SIU) investigators seized methamphetamine with a street value of more than $12,000 and arrested a Gainesville man for drug trafficking at his residence off Ga. 53/Dawsonville Highway on Thursday, March 27.

During its investigation, SIU obtained a search warrant for a residence in the 3400 block of Rock Ridge Drive.

While executing the search warrant in the 6 p.m. hour, investigators found approximately 170 grams of
methamphetamine and roughly $7,000 cash. They arrested Kelly Leif Ward, 43, at the home. The estimated street value of the drugs is $12,750. Investigators obtained warrants charging Ward with the felony offenses of trafficking methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

Ward was booked into the Hall County Jail where he remained held without bond on Friday afternoon, March 28. SIU is continuing its investigation.

While assisting SIU on the search, HCSO Warrant Service Unit deputies arrested another man in the home.
Ronald Scott Dowling, 55, of Dahlonega, had an outstanding superior court arrest warrant for probation
violation. Investigators did not charge Dowling in the drug case.”
