*The University of Georgia major in African American studies is under review by the school because of low enrollment. Data show UGA having 25 African American Studies majors from 2020 to 2025.

*No Libertarians will be on the Georgia ballot this November and that likely means no runoffs. The Libertarian Party of Georgia says it can’t come up with the 72,000 signatures needed by Tuesday to qualify statewide candidates for the ballot. Libertarian candidates often dilute the vote enough to force runoffs extending into the holidays.

*Chatham County has approved a 120-day moratorium on new short-term vacation rentals neighborhoods voice concerns. Existing rentals are not affected, and neither are rentals currently going through the approval process. The decision aims to give the county more time to update ordinances governing short-term rentals.

*The AJC reports that the state’s child welfare system, which faced an $86 million budget shortfall last fall, is facing increased demand for services from the children of deported immigrants. Though the overall number of immigrant children in the system from ICE enforcement is relatively small compared to the 12,700 in foster care, group homes or institutions, they are putting pressure on the already overtaxed Division of Family and Children’s Services (DFACS).
