Two principals moving on; Moving ahead with plans for new city hall; Gville native recognized by DJJ

*Two Forsyth County school principals will be assuming new roles in the school system at the end of the current school year. Daves Creek Elementary’s Eric Ashton will become Director of Human Resources and Lakeside Middle principal Megan Thomspon has been named Director of Teacher and Learning. The current heads of those departments are retiring this year.

*The Cleveland City Council has voted on a purchase of land to be used for a new municipal complex that will include city hall and fire department headquarters. The property is on Cantrell Road, and the purchase price is about two million dollars. City officials hope to have the facility ready for occupancy sometime in the coming fiscal year which begins July 1.

*Gainesville native Heishe Brown has been named Teacher of the Year by the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ). Brown is a Special Education Teacher, Case Manager and Assessment Coordinator at the DeKalb Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC). Her career spans more than two decades and she has been described as having positive impacts on those she serves by “creating supportive environments where students can thrive.”
