HCSO NARRATIVE:
“Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) criminal investigators have charged a suspect with aggravated battery after he assaulted a man with a machete during a weekend gathering at a Gainesville residence.
Just after 3 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, HCSO patrol deputies responded to the residence on Floyd Road where the incident occurred and to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville where the victim had been transported. The investigation determined the suspect, Carlos Hernandez Nicolas, 42, who lived at the residence, and the victim, identified as Jose Turcios Garcia, 38, became involved in a verbal argument that turned into a physical fight. During the course of the fight, Mr. Hernandez Nicolas grabbed a machete and assaulted Mr. Turcios Garcia. The victim sustained several injuries, including the amputation of his left thumb. Deputies recovered the machete at the scene.
Mr. Hernandez Nicolas was taken into custody at the Floyd Road residence. He remains in the Hall County Jail with no bond on a single felony count of aggravated battery. Mr. Turcios Garcia was released from the hospital after treatment of his injuries, and then he was jailed on a failure to appear charge. Both men were placed under immigration holds.”
