Two bicyclists killed; 24 arrests in sex sting; Storm damages school; Band to appear in NYC’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade

*Two bicyclists are dead after being hit by a vehicle in Sumter County. Sheriff Eric Bryant says the teen driver had a blind spot and didn’t see the women Friday. Both were pronounced dead on scene. The incident happened near Tommy Hooks Road.  

*A middle Georgia sting targeting sex traffickers and commercial sex buyers in the Houston County area has resulted in the arrest of 24 people. The GBI says the operation was coordinated with several local law enforcement agencies and Homeland Security investigators. Most of those arrested were from middle Georgia. The arrestees, ranging in age from 17 to 61, traveled from areas around Houston County, with the intent to purchase sex or sell sex commercially, the GBI said.

*Severe weather in Central Georgia caused minor damage to a Twiggs County School, with strong winds ripping part of the gutter system off the gymnasium. School officials tell   13WMAZ the damaged area has been roped off for safety until repairs are completed, expected by Monday afternoon. The damage was limited to the exterior of the building, with no impact on the interior.   

*Effingham County High School’s marching band will be in the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade Tuesdy. Band Director Will Alford says about 200 students will make the trip to participate in one of the largest parades in the country.
