Trump indictment: Co-defendant keeps his seat in state Senate

With the help of state Sen. Steve Gooch of Dahlonega (pictured), a member of the Georgia Senate who is also one of those indicted in the Fulton County elections case, will not have to relinquish his legislative seat.

The AJC reports Shawn Still (R-Gwinnett Co.) was cleared by a three-person panel that includes Gooch, the Senate Majority Leader, to remain in the Senate while he fights the charges against him. Like Gooch, the other two members of the tribunal – Attorney General Chris Carr and House Majority Leader Chuck Efstration – are Republicans.

Several groups have protested the panel’s decision but some legal experts say it is consistent with the way such panels have handled such matters in the past, the newspaper reported.
