Traffic stop yields stolen gun, drugs

Winder Police said Friday a traffic stop last weekend turned up a stolen gun and illegal drugs, including numerous bags of marijuana, leading to the arrests of two people.

WINDER POLICE NEWS RELEASE:

“Michael Anthony Johnson, 43, of Lilburn, and Jikeela Selina Wicks, 37, of Lawrenceville, were stopped by the Winder Police Department on Sunday, March 17, 2024.

The vehicle, driven by Wicks, had a suspended registration and lacked valid insurance. During the stop, Winder officers smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle which led them to conduct a search. The search revealed numerous bags of suspected marijuana, a scale, several THC vape cartridges and a Smith and Wesson handgun that was reported stolen out of Cobb County. Johnson and Wicks were both arrested.

Once at the jail, Johnson was found to be concealing Oxycodone and mushrooms. It was also learned that Johnson was a convicted felon.  Johnson is charged with Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Schedule 1 Controlled Substance, Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Schedule 2 Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Related Objects, Possession of Drugs Not In Original Container, Crossing a Guard Line with Drugs and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.   

Wick is charged with Suspended Registration, No Insurance and Possession of a Schedule 1 Controlled Substance. .

Johnson is currently in the Barrow County Detention Center and was issued a $35,000 bond. Wicks has since posted bail on a $2,000 bond.”
