Three drivers cited in 5-vehicle crash north of Gainesville

STATE PATROL NARRATIVE:

“(Wednesday about 1:00 p.m.) a Trooper responded to SR 11 (Cleveland Highway) to investigate a traffic crash.

Upon arrival, the investigating Trooper determined a 2019 Freightliner Semi-Truck was traveling south on SR 11. The driver, Achiya Errar, age 26, of Sunrise, FL, missed her turn and came to a complete stop in the roadway in the southbound lane.

A 2022 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Zydrune Masterson, age 45, of Helen, GA, was following this semi-truck southbound. Ms. Masterson attempted to pass the semi-truck on the left in a no-passing zone by crossing the double yellow lines.

A 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Jared Holcombe, age 34, of Jefferson, GA, was traveling northbound in the left lane. Mr. Holcombe was driving distracted, looking out of his right window, and struck the Chevrolet Silverado head-on.

Mr. Holcombe then continued northbound, where he struck a second vehicle, a 1995 Ford F-150 driven by Jeffery Gerrell, age 60, of Cleveland, GA. Mr. Gerrell was traveling south on SR 11 behind Ms. Masterson in the Silverado.

Debris from the collision then struck a fifth vehicle, a 2013 Mazda 6, driven by Justin Armour, age 36, of Clermont, GA. Mr. Armour’s 1-year-old daughter was in the back seat of his vehicle.

Both the Chevrolet Silverado driven by Ms. Masterson and the 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Mr. Holcombe sustained disabling damage and were towed from the scene. SR 11 (Cleveland Highway) was shut down for approximately 40 minutes to clear the roadway of vehicles.

Ms. Errar was cited for improper stopping in the roadway. Ms. Masterson was cited for passing in a no-passing zone, and Mr. Holcombe was cited for distracted driving.”

There were no injuries.
