‘Temporarily’ closed lane at Ga. 400/Ga. 369 to continue

To examine potential abnormal settlement on the westside approach to the SR 400 overpass’s (Exit 18) northern lanes on SR 369 (Browns Bridge Road), officials involved with the SR 369 widening project “temporarily closed” the Phase 1 (northern) side of the overpass to traffic on May 20. And now, a month later, Forsyth County officials have issued an update on the project and say that’s still going to be the case for a unspecified length of time.

FORSYTH CO. GOVERNMENT NEWS RELEASE:

“Since that time, crews from Forsyth County, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and other consultants have been reviewing and evaluating potential modifications required on the westside of the SR 400 overpass. County officials believe that the continued closure of Phase 1 for monitoring purposes is warranted and appropriate.

Traffic has and will remain open in both directions on the overpass’s Phase 2 (southern) side of the bridge until any necessary repairs are completed. Traffic flow will continue solely on Phase 2 of the overpass with one lane in each direction until crews have completed necessary modifications to address the following items under review:

–           Possible abnormal settlement on the west side of the bridge

–           Repairs to the northwest cap of Phase 1 to meet GDOT’s service life requirements

“I want to make it clear that the bridge was and is safe for all commuters, and that the additional enhancements currently under review are needed primarily to ensure the bridge’s long-term functionality,” said County Manager David McKee. “We do not anticipate any major traffic impacts during this period with traffic continuing to flow as it has for several months with one lane in each direction.”

“We greatly appreciate our community’s patience and understanding as we work with partners on the best traffic solutions for our County.”

The reopening timeline of the northern side of the overpass will be determined following the review and completion of any needed modifications. Information pertaining to the full opening of all four lanes on the overpass will be communicated via the County’s website, forsythco.com, and social media channels.”
