Teachers killed in Barrow Co. had Hall Co. ties

Both the teachers who were killed in the shooting at Apalachee High School in Barrow County Wednesday had Hall County ties. Meanwhile, their alleged killer is being held in a state lockup in Gainesville.

Former Gainesville Schools Supt. Merrianne Dyer confirmed Thursday that Christina Irimie once taught in the city system, in fact she even did her student teaching here and was then hired for a teaching position. Dyer said Thursday Irimie taught math at Gainesville Middle School.

The other teacher, Richard Aspinwall, 39, was the husband of Shayna Aspinwall, a science and special ed teacher at Flowery Branch High.

The student the GBI says killed them and two students while wounding eight other students and a teacher is being held at the Regional Youth Development Center, a jail for youthful offenders, in Gainesville. Colt Gray, 14, is due for a court hearing in Winder Friday. Authorities have also said he will be tried as an adult.
