Sweep of Barrow Co. for credit card skimmers

The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) and Secret Service recently conducted a countywide check for credit card skimming devices, but none were found at the 76 businesses that were checked, according to the sheriff’s office.

That’s in contrast to a recent such sweep in August in Atlanta and Columbus-Muscogee County during which 41 were found.

The BCSO says during the Barrow County operation 429 gas pumps, 47 ATMs, and about 200 point-of-sales terminals were examined.

The devices the authorities were looking for are used by crooks to steal a cardholder’s information and use it themselves for fraudulent transactions or sell it to other partners in crime.
