Suwanee, Canton named GEMS communities

GEORGIA DEPT OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS NEWS RELEASE:

“The Georgia Main Street Program, housed within the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, (recently) announced that Canton and Suwanee have been designated as Georgia Exceptional Main Street (GEMS) communities. They join a distinguished group of cities recognized for their commitment to downtown revitalization, economic development, and community innovation.

The GEMS designation is awarded to cities that exemplify excellence in implementing the Main Street Approach, demonstrating a strong track record of success in preserving local character while driving economic growth. This recognition reflects the significant achievements Canton and Suwanee have made in creating vibrant downtowns that serve as economic and cultural hubs for their regions.

Both communities bring unique strengths to the GEMS network. Suwanee is known for its dynamic public spaces and forward-thinking planning, while Canton has made remarkable strides in small business development, community events, and fostering a strong sense of place. Their inclusion in the GEMS program highlights their leadership and dedication to building thriving, resilient downtowns.”
