*An infant’s death in Augusta is being blamed on a dog attack. Richmond County’s coroner confirmed that a three-month-old girl was attacked by a dog at a home on Hillwood Circle on Saturday morning.
*MARTA Police announcing Sunday the arrest of 42-year-old Tyrone Gresham for aggravated assault and firearm possession by a convicted felon in connection with last week’s shooting on a MARTA train. Officers booking Gresham into the Douglas County Jail. Doctors expect the male victim, shot in the leg, to recover. Some MARTA riders are saying they’d like to see a beefed-up police presence.
*A man has been convicted in connection with the ongoing Johnson Funeral Home investigation in Coffee County. Court records show James A. Sirmans was found guilty of conspiracy to commit insurance fraud and insurance fraud. Sirmans was arrested in December 2024 after he allegedly tried to obtain additional life insurance proceeds by altering a death certificate. He is scheduled to be sentenced later this month. The case is tied to a broader investigation that began after authorities discovered 18 decomposing bodies inside the funeral home.
*A new report shows Georgians spend more on groceries than most Americans. The average household in the Peach state spent Nearly $9,000 on foods in 2024, ranking 11th nationwide. That’s 12% above the national average. Fox 5 reports Georgia homes allocate about 8.5% of their annual income to groceries, compared to the national average of seven percent.
