Summer was 1.2 degrees warmer than usual in Gville

(EDITOR’S NOTE: This is a different report from the one detailed in a story posted Saturday which dealt with the August Climate Summary.)

As far as meteorologists, climatologists, and others are concerned, the long, hot summer is over – and the climate summary for June, July and August shows just how hot it was. Though most of us think of summer as ending later this month, most scientists look at those three months when compiling such statistics.

And by their calculations, Gainesville was 1.2 degrees warmer than usual, making it the warmest among the nine reporting stations in north and central Georgia covered by the Peachtree City National Weather Service (NWS) office.

The data also show the average daily temperature in Gainesville was 78.8 degrees. The highest temperature during the period was 98 which occurred on July 28, during that prolonged mid-summer heat wave.

Gainesville recorded 12.98 inches of rain during June, July and August which is about half-an-inch below normal.
