A fast-moving but brief line of severe thunderstorms roared through parts of northeast Georgia at mid-afternoon Saturday, bringing with it small hail, strong winds, and heavy rain. The weather service had issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Hall and a number of other counties.
Social media was covered in reports of hail from parts of Hall County. The airport in Gainesville recorded stormy conditions and a top wind gust of 29 mph at mid-afternoon but within an hour things had calmed down and clearing skies were reported. Rainfall at the airport as a result of the storm measured .27 inches.
The storm did bring down at least one tree. That was in the Commerce area.
The Jackson EMC outage map recorded only scattered power outages.
The next major weather system in our area is expected to be that big dip in temperatures you’ve probably heard and read about which is expected overnight Sunday into Monday morning when a hard freeze is forecast to send temperatures into the 20s and has prompted a Freeze Watch from the weather service.
