State tax collections; Fireworks death; Game warden shoots, kills man; Woods: Turn those $$ loose

*Georgia’s net tax collections in June totaled roughly $3.15 billion for an increase of $124.3 million, or 4.1 percent, compared to FY 2024 when net tax collections approached $3.03 billion for the month.

*A Georgia man died from a fireworks accident on July 4 in Vidalia. WMAZ-TV reports Clinton Simpson was holding a firework when it exploded, and he died the next day in an Augusta hospital. 

*The GBI is now investigating after a West Georgia man is shot and killed Tuesday by a DNR game warden. Investigators say there were reports of a man trespassing in the Barnesville area. They say when the game warden approached 28-year-old Dante Smith, he charged at him with a knife. The game warden then shot and killed Smith. The game warden was not injured.
