*A 25-year-old woman has been charged with vehicular homicide after her car struck and killed a Meriwether County student Thursday morning. Kaylee Andre was booked into the county jail Saturday. Authorities say the bus lights were flashing and the stop-sign arms deployed at the time of the accident.
*A newly filed bill in the Georgia Legislature is aimed at protecting the state’s homeowners’ deeds from swapping hands without the owners’ authorization. The bill’s sponsor, State Rep. Mandisha Thomas, says homeowners are currently at risk of “deed theft” as it stands because filling paperwork on a house doesn’t require a government-issued photo ID.
*A 43-year-old Carrollton man, with an extensive criminal history, has been sentenced to 40 years without parole after being convicted of assaulting his girlfriend at a Carroll County store. Kenneth Phillips has been arrested 30 times and convicted five times since 1998, according to court records.
