With the start of a new school year a few months ago, Eagle Ranch launched a day student program at Eagle Ranch School.
Executive Director John Shackelford and his team wanted to include a school resource officer – better known as an SRO – in the school environment. He and 1st Lt. Sean Bradburn of the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) put their heads together and came up with a plan to have a HCSO deputy on the school property while classes are in session.
“Right now, we have several patrol deputies who share the role of SRO at Eagle Ranch, working in an extra-duty capacity,” Lt. Bradburn. “So far, it’s been a great partnership!”
Shackelford said having a deputy at the school allows the 4th and 5th grade students to view law enforcement in a positive light, seeing them as helpers rather than enforcers.
