*A push to halt an ICE detention center from opening in Social Circle is growing. Hundreds of people showed up at a rally outside the historic Walton County Courthouse Sunday to voice opposition to the project
*A controversial elections bill may have failed in the State Senate but don’t write its obituary just yet. Its sponsor says he may try putting it in other legislation. If it were to become law, it would change voting from touch screens to paper ballots. Republicans call paper ballots more secure. Democrats voting against paper ballots argue the change would be too costly and would be too close to the coming elections in November.
*A historic metro Atlanta church holds service Sunday despite illegal dumping. Hundreds of commercial tires were found Wednesday at College Park’s Pleasant Hill Victory AME Church. Mounds of heavy tires have damaged gravestones in the cemetery attached to the 100-year-old church. The pastor says the church is using a GoFundMe account to raise money for security — $3,000 as of early Monday.
*The fatal shooting of a toddler is under investigation in middle Georgia. Taylor County Sheriff Bubba Sawyer says a two-year-old was shot on Peters Road in Butler late Sunday afternoon. The child died despite life-saving efforts by medical personnel on the way to the hospital. No other details were immediately available.
